One of ARGOS’ most recent contracts of greatest prestige regards the nickel plating treatment of operating assemblies for the entire Mose system in Venice.
They are mechanical parts that, as a whole, open and close the 78 mobile gates that ensure Venice’s total protection from high waters.
These gates consist of large metal box structures connected to relevant housing caissons by hinges, the technological heart of the system, which bind the gates to the caissons and allow them to move.
The components treated by ARGOS, a vital part of the opening and closing operation of Mose, must ensure constant and perfect operation for a very long period of time while resisting such heavy corrosion like that of sea water and keeping the surfaces of the components unaltered to guarantee the system’s operation.
FIP Industriale, a Mantovani Group company that built the hinge-connector assembly in compliance with the strictest regulations and standards in the field of mechanical and corrosion strength ordered by the Works Management of the Italian Ministry of Infrastructures, asked Argos to define cycles and procedures that would ensure absolute compliance with the strict parameters imposed by the supply specifications.
Thanks to the technology and know-how it has at its disposal, Argos was able to define cycles and procedures with relevant tests in full cooperation with external laboratories accredited to control and verify surface coatings so that the Niploy coating tested on every single piece (over 2000, also large in size) would exceed the values and parameters set. Porosity of the Niploy coating on all the various components, including the threads, is zero.
This led to an even greater increase in the level and performance of Argos electroless nickel plating coatings, such as to be able to brave even the most critical areas of application with the peace of mind and awareness that only expertise and more than 30 years of experience in the field can guarantee.
